I'm back from California and JavaOne. It was a great trip. The five days of technical sessions contained an amazing amount of much information; I learned a lot. And here I am with the Duke (I didn't know Java even had a mascot before the conference):

Given how much was new to me, I'm realizing that a single yearly trip just isn't enough to keep current. Work has a consitent technology stack, which makes sense, but I need to find some space to explore when there's something new I should advocate for. To stay current, I'm going to have to subscribe to some feeds and other sources and experiment with new tools technologies and throughout the year.
